Oates death - The last enteries

Titus Oates say to the other men that they should leave him in his sleeping-bag. But they men would not, and they took him with them on a afternoon march. When it became night they could see, that it was over for him.

Titus Oates' last thoughts were of his mother. Scoot see Oates as a very brave and gentle man.

"I take this opportunity of saying that we have stuck to our sick companions to the last". It was important for Scott that other know that is was Oates own choice, and that Scoot and the rest of the company were there to the last.

The men's situation - The last enteries

It's obvious that the physical surroundings doesn't make the trip back home easier. In page 62, line 5 Scott tells about freezing temperatures down to 35 degrees. "No human being could face it, and we are worn out nearly". This statement says much too, about their mental and physical conditions. Crises emerge clearly. In his next statement he claims: "My right foot has gone nearly all the toes - two days ago I was proud possessor of best feet." Pain simply feels lesser when winning. It was such a big disappointment for the men so it is evidently that their mental situation changes.

4) Make a list of the men who accompany Scott on his expedition and keep track of their fates.

Scotts writing style - The last entries

Scott tells a lot about the weather situation.
It is short sentences and he did not finish them all. Examples could be "We may hope for 3 this afternoon, 7x6=42". Scott misses some verbs for instance  "The sky completely overscast when we started this morning."

Genre - The last entries

The last Entries is a diary.
It is told from the main character's point of view.
